What is an car idle motor valve in a car, and what happens if it is not working properly?

The car idle motor valve (IAC) China, tries to control the idle speed by allowing air to bypass the throttle plates and keep the engine running when the throttle is closed. When the AC is turned on, the valve opens slightly to bring the idle back up to keep the engine running.
