What causes the car to shake when the air flow meter is loaded

2025-02-15

The air flow meter itself

If the quality of the air flow meter itself is defective, its internal sensor components may not accurately measure the air flow. For example, if the hot wire of a hot-wire air flow meter is damaged or aged, the measured air flow data will be inaccurate.

The choice of air flow meter model does not match the car engine is also a common reason. Different engines have different air flow requirements and ranges. For example, if an air flow meter for a small displacement engine is installed on a large displacement engine vehicle, it will cause the engine control unit (ECU) to receive the wrong signal because of the insufficient measuring range, which will cause the engine intake control misalignment, and then cause the vibration.

If the air flow meter is installed in the wrong position, it may affect its normal operation. For example, a deviation in the installation angle may cause air to flow through the sensor in a state that does not meet the design requirements, resulting in errors in the measured air flow data.

The connection between air flow meter and air inlet pipe is not tight, and air leakage occurs. As a result, some of the air will leak through the leak, causing the actual amount of air entering the engine to differ from the amount measured by the air flow meter. The ECU controls the amount of fuel injection according to the wrong air flow signal, which will cause the imbalance of the mixture and cause the engine to shake.

Relevant parts are faulty or incompatible

Electrical connection issues: Poor connection of the air flow meter wiring harness is one of the possible causes. If the plug is loose, poorly contacted or the beams are damaged, the signal transmission will be interrupted or there will be interference. When the ECU can not receive the air flow signal stably, it can not accurately control the amount of fuel injection and ignition timing of the engine, which causes engine vibration.

The interference between sensors There are many sensors working together in the engine system, such as the intake temperature sensor, the fuel rack position sensor and so on. If there is interference between these sensors and the air flow meter, such as electromagnetic interference, it will affect the accuracy of the air flow meter. The failure of the intake temperature sensor may cause the ECU to miscalculate the intake density, combined with the wrong air flow signal, which will make the engine work improperly and shake.

Failure of the ECU itself, such as internal circuit failure, chip aging, etc., may not be able to correctly process the air flow meter signal. Even if the air flow meter is working properly, the ECU may make a wrong command, causing the engine to jitter.

The vehicle's ECU procedure can also be an issue if it is not adapted to the newly installed air flow meter. For example, if the parameters of the air flow meter are not recalibrated after the engine control procedure is updated, the engine control strategy will not match the actual intake air, and the engine will shake.
