Under what conditions can automobile air flow meter be repaired

2025-01-21

When the sensor is polluted: The automobile air flow meter is used for a long time and maybe polluted by dust, oil, pollen, and other impurities. These pollutants can affect the sensor's accurate measurement of air flow. For example, the hot wire or hot film components of the air flow meter are easy to accumulate dust particles.

Repair method: Can use a special air flow meter cleaner to clean. When cleansing, ensure that the detergent is suitable for the type of air flow meter and that the correct operating procedure is followed. It is generally used to spray a cleaning agent evenly on the sensor element and wait for the cleaning agent to naturally evaporate and remove the pollutant. It is important to note that the sensor's sensitive components should not be damaged during cleaning.

Electrical connection failure: The electric connection of the air flow meter may be loosened, corroded, or short-circuited due to the vibration and temperature variation during the running of the vehicle. For example, in a humid environment, the electrical joint may be dampened and rusted, affecting signal transmission.

Repair method: First of all, it is necessary to check the connection of the air flow meter wire plug is solid. If the plug is found to be loose, you can reinsert it. For a joint that has corrosion, an electrical contact cleaner can be used to clean the joint, remove the corrosion, and then make sure the joint is dried and reconnected. If a wire is found to have a broken or short circuit, the damaged part of the wire needs to be repaired or replaced.

When slight performance deviations occur: The air flow meter may degrade with the increase of service life, and the measurement may have a small deviation. This deviation may not immediately cause the engine trouble light to be on, but it may affect the performance of the engine, such as slight unsteady idling or poor acceleration.

Repair method: Some advanced air flow meters can be calibrated with professional diagnostic equipment. Technicians can connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle's OBD-II interface, read the current parameters of the air flow meter, and adjust the calibration to the vehicle's standard parameters. However, this calibration operation requires an in-depth knowledge of the vehicle's electronic control system and the working principles of the air flow meter, as well as the use of diagnostic tools that meet the vehicle's specifications.
