The working principle of the throttle sensor

2024-07-15

Throttle position sensor, also known as throttle opening sensor or throttle switch, is a device used to detect engine status.
Principle:
The throttle switch has two contacts, which are the idle speed contact (IDL) and the full load contact (PSW). A cam coaxial with the throttle controls the opening and closing of the two switch contacts. When the throttle is in the fully closed position, the idle speed contact IDL is closed, and the ECU determines that the engine is in an idle speed condition according to the closing signal of the idle speed switch, so as to control the fuel injection volume according to the requirements of the idle speed condition;
When the throttle valve is opened, the idle speed contact is opened, and the ECU performs fuel injection control from idle speed to light load according to this signal; the full load contact is always in the range of the throttle valve from the fully closed position to the medium and small opening. In the open state, when the throttle valve is opened to a certain angle (55 ° for Toyota 1G-EU cars), the full load contact starts to close, send a signal that the engine is in full load operation to the ECU, and the ECU performs full load enrichment control according to this signal.
