The component of the air flow sensor

Automotive air flow meters are based on electromagnetic induction or thermal conduction. When air passes through a flow meter, an electromagnetic induction voltage that is proportional to the air flow causes the temperature of the thermal film elements to decrease.
Components and functions:
Air inlet pipe: the introduction of air into the flowmeter, its shape, and size affect the sensitivity and accuracy of the flowmeter.
Thermal film components: The core component, consisting of thin film resistors and thermally sensitive resistors, is used to measure air flow.
Thermal resistance: The resistance value that changes with temperature is a key part of the thermal film element.
Circuit board: An electrical signal that measures the resistances of hot film components and thermistors and converts them into the air flow.
Enclosure: Protects internal components from the external environment.
Work process:
Air flows through the air inlet pipe into the flowmeter. The temperature of the thermal film element decreases due to the cooling of the air, resulting in a change in the resistance value of the sensitive resistance. The circuit board detects this variation and converts it into an electrical signal (e.g., 4-20 mA current). This electrical signal is sent to the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU).
The role of the ECU:
The ECU adjusts the amount of fuel injection according to the received electrical signal to ensure the normal operation of the engine, improve fuel economy, and reduce pollution emissions.
Types:
There are many types of automotive air flow meters, such as valve-type air flow sensors and Karman scroll air flow sensors. They operate on slightly different principles, but the overall goal is to accurately measure air flow.
In summary, an air flow meter measures air flow through electromagnetic induction or thermal conduction theory, and the results are converted into electrical signals sent to the ECU, in order to adjust the amount of fuel injection, to achieve the goal of optimizing fuel consumption and reducing emissions.
