Idle air control motor- What is the difference between different winding methods

2025-03-12

Step-by-step motor coil:

How it works: The step motor idle air control motor has two sets of coils inside, and the driving computer accurately controls the order of the current discharge, so that the coils produce magnetic field changes in different directions. Using the principle of "anisotropy and anisotropism," the rotor is driven to rotate according to the predetermined step, and the rotation of the rotor will drive the movement of the relevant mechanical structure, thereby controlling the intake amount of air in the airway adjacent to the throttle door, and achieving the precise regulation of the engine idle speed.

Advantages: The structure is relatively simple, the control accuracy is high, and the inlet quantity can be adjusted accurately according to the different conditions of the engine, so that the engine maintains a stable speed under idle mode. And this kind of motor has high reliability and long service life, so it is widely used in Hyundai Motor.

Cons: Due to the need for precise current control and complex drive circuits, its manufacturing costs are relatively high.

Rotating electromagnetically operated valve winding:

How It Works: The rotary electromagnetically operated valve idling air control motor has a permanent magnet and two coils inside. The valve in the middle is connected to the permanent magnet in the rear through the intermediate shaft. When electricity is given to the coil, the magnetic field is changed, and the opening of the valve is controlled. This motor has two holes, separately connecting the fresh air of the air filter and the inlet manifold at the back of the throttle door, which regulates the amount of idle air entering the engine through a change in the opening of the valve.

Advantages: a faster response rate and the ability to adjust the engine's idle speed in a shorter time. Moreover, its structure is relatively simple, does not require complex mechanical drive mechanisms, and its small size makes it easy to install in the engine compartment.

Disadvantage: The control accuracy is slightly lower than that of the step motor type, and the control requirements for the current are also higher. If the current is unstable, it may affect the opening control of the valve, thereby affecting the idle speed stability of the engine.

In summary, the idle air control motor of stepped motor-type loops has high accuracy and good reliability, but the manufacturing cost is high. Rotating electromagnetically operated valve winding motor has fast response speed and simple structure, but its control precision and stability are relatively weak. Different circuitry methods are suitable for different car models and engine requirements.
