How Is the Air Flow Meter of SAIC Maxus Pickup Truck T60?

2024-10-09

If there is a problem with the air flow meter of SAIC Maxus pickup truck T60, there may be many manifestations. For example, the car will shake at idle speed, accelerate weakly, increase fuel consumption, and emit black smoke from the exhaust pipe.

Common reasons for the air flow meter to be broken are: short circuit, open circuit or abnormal intake signal, which will cause abnormal fuel injection, causing the mixture to be too rich or too lean, thereby affecting the engine operation and power.

To determine whether the air flow meter is damaged, the following methods can be used:

1. Measure the output voltage data when the engine is running. The dynamic signal voltage at the signal end of the plug is 0.8-1.4V at idle speed and close to 4V when accelerating to full load. If it is not in this range, it may be damaged or dirty. Try cleaning it.

2. Use a multimeter to detect, the voltage value is generally 5V, use a hair dryer to blow air into the sensor, the voltage changes with the size of the air intake, which is normal, otherwise there may be a fault.

3. When the engine is running, unplug the air flow meter plug. If the fault phenomenon changes slightly, it means it is good; if the fault disappears, it means that the flow meter signal is deviated and not damaged; if the fault persists, it means that it has been damaged or the line is bad.

The air flow meter itself is generally not easy to damage, but if the intake air is too dirty, dust accumulation will affect its detection accuracy and life. Therefore, it is necessary to check the air filter regularly, often drive in places with poor environment, shorten the air filter replacement cycle, ensure the clean intake air, protect the air flow meter, and reduce engine wear.

The air flow meter is installed on the intake hose between the air filter and the throttle, which can provide intake pressure and temperature signals. Its signal, together with the water temperature sensor, throttle position sensor and front oxygen sensor signal, provides the ECU with a reference for adjusting the injection amount. The ECU combines these to calculate the optimal injection amount, which is very useful.

The effects of a damaged air flow meter include: abnormal signals will be accompanied by incorrect indications of the injection volume, leading to carbon deposits, increased fuel consumption, damage to the three-way catalytic converter, dull acceleration, slow power increase and "backfires"; signal breakage has little effect on the engine, but when the throttle opening increases, the intake manifold vacuum changes, and because the intake pressure cannot be detected, the injection volume will be inaccurate in a short period of time, affecting power and fuel economy.
