This means when an automotive air flow sensor begins to fail — often signaled by rough idling, lean misfires, or surging — the vehicle’s ECU can log a specific fault code before drivability suffers.

Auto technicians warn that ignoring a degraded automotive air flow sensor leads to more than poor fuel economy. A misreading sensor can trigger excessive carbon buildup on intake valves, overheating of the catalytic converter, and even transmission shifting issues on modern vehicles.
